SUMMARY:The Lesbian History of Sonoma County
DESCRIPTION:Join us via Zoom for a lecture and Q&A with Tina Dungan and Shad Reinstein\, creators of the Sonoma County LGTBQI Timeline. They will be discussing the unique history of lesbians in Sonoma County and how these women have made an impact on our community. \nIn the 1970s\, the Women’s Movement and the Stonewall Riots combined to impact the nation and the world. Many lesbians began to dream of creating their own communities. During that time\, an influx of lesbian women moved to Sonoma County\, creating a vibrant community in the area. These women opened businesses and produced theater and musical events. Women’s Studies programs were created at Sonoma State University and Santa Rosa Junior College\, two of the first such programs in California. Lesbians from Sonoma County helped lead the political fights that were happening with the Briggs Initiative/Prop 6\, which sought to ban gay/lesbian people from working in public schools. \nTina and Shad collaborated to create the Sonoma County LGBTQI Timeline which premiered at PRIDE 2018. As they research the LGBTQI history of Sonoma County\, the timeline continues to expand. This year\, they have created two talks: The LGBTQI History of Sonoma County as well as The Lesbian History of Sonoma County. \nTina Dungan is a lifelong resident of Sonoma County who came out as a lesbian in the early 1970s while a student in the first Women’s Studies Program at SSU. Since 2007\, she has been working with others through the Lesbian Archives of Sonoma County to capture the cultural and political history of that community. Dungan also teaches a class based on the Sonoma County LGBTQI Timeline through the Older Adults Program at SRJC. \nShad Reinstein came out shortly after Stonewall and has been involved in local and national LGBTQI culture and politics. She has been researching lesbian history for several decades. She co-produced the documentary film\, Mom’s Apple Pie\, the History of the Lesbian Mothers’ Custody Movement. She is now researching a lesbian community from the 1930s. Her work with Tina on the Sonoma County LGBTQI Timeline has helped her understand the history and culture of Sonoma County\, her new home. \nPre-registration for this free virtual program is required! \nThis program was made possible with support from the California Humanities\, a non-profit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. SUMMARY:Unmask Your Pride With Us - Popup Photobooth
DESCRIPTION:Come “Unmask Your Pride” at Sonoma County Pride’s Photobooth @ Brew! Be a part of Sonoma County’s Virtual LGBTQ Pride – Unmask Your Pride 2020! Stop by Brew this Saturday from 10am to 2pm and join us at our photobooth! \n#UnmaskYourPride signifies Pride’s encouragement and a gentle nudge to everyone to “Unmask Yourself\,” “Reveal Your Authentic Self\,” “Shed the Layers You Hide Behind in Order to Adhere to Societal Expectations\,” “Share and Release the Burdens You Carry to Protect Protect Yourself in Our Society.” A growing sentiment we have heard after the past 2 months of Shelter in Place was variations of: “I was able to be more myself because I was not worrying about what people thought of me.” \nIn the spirit of Alicia Key’s statement\, “I don’t want to cover up anymore. Not my face\, not my mind\, not my soul\, not my thoughts\, not my dreams\, not my struggles\, not my emotional growth. Nothing.” We ask you – What is something you are willing to share or reveal about yourself that you have unmasked or let go of in the past two months? Or something you would like to release in the coming year? \nCan’t make it? Ok\, Turn your phone on and do a selfie video and send it to us!

SUMMARY:Sonoma County Pride Raises the Pride flag!
DESCRIPTION:Come out as Sonoma County Pride kicks off Pride Month as we raise the Pride Flag on top of Rosenberg Building at the corner of Mendocino Ave & 4th St. \nThe pride flag was first introduced in 1978 by a man named Gilbert Baker. He was approached by the San Francisco Pride committee to come up with a new symbol to represent their fight for equal rights. After much deliberation\, he decided on a rainbow\, for its representation of diversity and of acceptance. Since then\, the rainbow flag has become an internationally recognizable symbol for the gay rights movement. It is associated with love\, and tolerance and peace. \nWe will also be streaming this event live on Facebook.

DESCRIPTION:Hello QITP fam\, we miss you all so much! \nLet’s try this Zoom thing out! \nLet’s all try to meet up online while we’re outside enjoying the fresh air! \nHere is the info. Ask about pronouns when you first meet someone.\n– Oops/ Ouch: if someone says something you find hurtful\, you can say “ouch.” They then say “oops” and we all work it out\, either during or after the event.\n– Use “I” statements rather than “you” or “we”\, and preface generalizations with “In my lived experience…” in order to refrain from marginalizing or offending others.
