SUMMARY:Queers in the Park September 2020!
DESCRIPTION:Holy guacamole\, it has been a minute since we’ve been around! Come help us celebrate one our favorite queer owned coffee shops in Santa Rosa and enjoy their new extended outdoor patio! \nObvious social distancing and masks required! Looking forward to seeing y’all!\n~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\nThis is a queer meet up group! \nThis event is being put on by some local queers who want to connect\, gather\, network\, celebrate\, and build in a SAFE SPACE. \nHere are a few SAFE SPACE guidelines we borrowed from our fellow queers that we think would be good for our events. \n– Consent for touching.\n– Don’t assume\, we respect each other by trying not to assume anything about anyone’s identity\, gender or otherwise. Ask about pronouns when you first meet someone.\n– Oops/ Ouch: if someone says something you find hurtful\, you can say “ouch.” They then say “oops” and we all work it out\, either during or after the event.\n– Use “I” statements rather than “you” or “we”\, and preface generalizations with “In my lived experience…” in order to refrain from marginalizing or offending others.

SUMMARY:Sonoma County: from LG to Lgbtqi
DESCRIPTION:Please join us August 24th at 6:30 pm for an informational webinar & discussion about Queer History in Sonoma County with Tina Dungan & Shad Reinstein. See link below for how to register. \nSonoma County has always had an LGBTQI presence. The earliest photos we could find of local LGBTQI people were in the late 1940s. This county has had a significant role in Queer Culture and Politics regionally\, statewide and even nationally. Women’s Studies classes/programs at SSU and SRJC were two of the first such programs in California. What was happening here in the years before Stonewall in 1969? What did Gender Non-Conformity look like in this area during the 1970s and 80s? How did Sonoma County help stop a national anti-LGBTQ movement? What is the Intersex Movement and how did one person start it here? This zoom presentation will discuss these things and more. It will be followed by a Q&A session. \nTina Dungan is a life-long resident of Sonoma County. She came out as a lesbian during the early 1970s through her involvement in the first Women’s Studies program at SSU. Since 2007\, she has been working with others through Lesbian Archives of Sonoma County to capture the cultural and political history of that community from 1965-1995. \nShad Reinstein came out shortly after Stonewall and has been involved in local and national LGBTQI culture and politics. She co-produced the documentary film\, Mom’s Apple Pie\, the History of the Lesbian Mothers’ Custody Movement. She is currently researching a lesbian community from the 1930’s. And for the last seven years she has produced OUTwatch\, Wine Country’s LGBTQI Film Festival. Her work with Tina on the Timeline has helped her understand the history and culture of Sonoma County\, her new home. \nTO ATTEND THE WEBINAR YOU MUST REGISTER WITH THE LINK BELOW:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_svpgNnGHR1mINcsHtCWirA \nTo donate and support Fantastically Queer\, please click on the Eventbrite link.
